“Let’s Not Leave Money On the Table!”
If it is our collective goal to build a stronger and more vibrant community, East Cleveland’s participation in the Census is a vital part of us achieving that goal.
The information collected in the census determines the amount of political representation our communities receive at the Federal and State level. It also determines how billions of dollars are distributed throughout communities for the next 10 years.
As of August 30th, the response rate in Ohio is 69%. This is slightly higher than the national average. As we take a deeper look, Cuyahoga County’sresponse rate as of August 30th is 65.2%, ranking 62 of the 88 Counties in Ohio. Taking an even closer look, East Cleveland response rate is at 32.2%, raking at 901 out of the 928 cities in Ohio. Just be clear, this is NOT a good thing.
The lack of response to the Census perpetuates systematic inequality and the disenfranchisement of communities that need it the most. East Cleveland clearly needs more resources and representation that can advocate on our behalf.
We cannot afford to leave money on the table, and there is no time to waste!
